Fall is here!
This is has to be my favorite time of the year for photography. Then again any time is my favorite time of year for photography. Fall is the beginning of cooler weather here in Texas as well as the start of the holiday season. Most of all its a busy season for family portraits. When your a beginner in photography, this time of year can be stressful. Recently I shot a fall mini for a family of three with a toddler. The shoot went very well but best of all I didn't freeze up when it came to posing them. Posing a family can be scary at first if your new to posing families. I put together a list of easy to remember poses that will make your first family fall shoot and any family shoot with a toddler less stressful.
Standing
When I pose a family standing, I don't just have them face the camera. I try to pose them in creative ways but natural looking. Kids love being on dads shoulders! So, it's only natural to but the baby on his shoulders for this standing pose and zoom in with your feet if your using a prime lens or in this case I shot this with the Sony 70-200 to have the ability to crop in camera.
Sitting
This is a simple yet beautiful natural pose for families. Especially a family with a toddler. I try to shoot this one early because I have found most toddlers haven't warmed up to the camera. So its a little easier to get their full cooperation. This pose doesn't require a lot of imagination but it is a go to pose for every photographer.
Pic a Boo
Use a structure such as a tree to play pic a boo with the toddler. Kids love pic a boo! This a great way to get a smile out of the Toddler.
Walking
Have the parents each hold the toddlers hand and walk slowly toward you. Focus on the toddler but make sure to get just enough of the parents in the frame.
